ASOMALJIA
For violin, electronics and video
Duration ca. 17 minutes
2025Spomeniks are monuments built in the former Yugoslavia to commemorate key events of World War II, as well as earlier struggles and ideals of resistance. With their futuristic aesthetics and abstract forms, these monuments embodied the utopian ideals of the socialist era, emphasizing unity and a shared vision of the future. Although many have been vandalized or destroyed, their presence continues to resonate as an echo of the past.
The piece weaves visual archives of these monuments with the story of an elderly Serbian man whose life was shaped by that era, and who affirms that he is in contact with a distant planet called Asomaljia, a place where its inhabitants live in peace and harmony.
Through these images, stories, and memories, the piece explores the intersection of science fiction, utopia, and nostalgia.
